Friends of Easter Seals:
The year 2009 has come as one of changes for Easter Seals.
We are saddened with the retirement of Pat Bowers, yet excited to welcome Cynthia Warren as new Executive Director. Pat’s complete dedication to Easter Seals has lead her to spend these first
three months of the new year helping Cynthia meet our clients and learn of our various programs. Cynthia, in turn, has shown her admiration of Pat’s commitment by trying to absorb all the information
she can.
We are excited to welcome new Board members Rick Niersbach, Gina Ruffcorn,
and returning Board member Kathie Baumer.
Being a member of our Board of Directors means you are a devoted member of
a working board. Our yearly activities – Yard Sale, Pizza Booth
at the Wayne Co. Fair, Activity Day and trip to the State Fair for young people with disabilities, Clue Hunt, Turkey Chase
7K, and Frostbite 5k Run all are important to help us meet the needs of Wayne and Union County communities.
Easter Seals loans various equipment to those in need. We have portable entrance ramps, portable commodes, wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers. Our therapeutic trike program helps children and young adults have fun riding a trike, while at the same
time providing them with much needed therapy.
Our camping program helps send individuals with disabilities to special camps
during the summer months.
To encourage disability awareness in our local schools, Easter Seals provides
specially trained presenters to bring the information to various 1st and 4th grade classes each year.
Easter Seals also awards a $500 scholarship to a high school graduate pursuing
a health-related or educational career, which would help individuals with disabilities.
Our Easter Seals organization continues to be devoted to helping those with disabilities to live
their lives with equality, dignity and independence. We could not provide these
programs without financial support from caring individuals such as you. Remember,
all donations we receive are used to serve your neighbors in both Wayne and Union counties.
If you want to see your monies at work, volunteer for Activity Day or State Fair Day. The smiles on the faces of the participants will more than reimburse you for your donation!
Respectfully,
Vickey Allen, President
